How finance dashboards are generated from Finance data

The Assembly Analytics Finance dashboard is powered by data from your finance system, and categorises this data by matching on a set of codes. This support article explains the output we require from your system, and which nominal codes are used to create Assembly finance measures.

The output from your system should have the following seven columns:

Column name Description
KEYLISTGROUPING Integer, where 1 = income and 2 = expenditure. Positive values are all treated as a net loss, negative values are treated as net income.
"NominalTitle" Description of the purpose of the nominal code (e.g. "SEN Funding")
"NOMINAL"

The nominal code (e.g. 1050 = Pupil Premium)
"BALANCE" The amount (assumed to be in £ sterling)
"BUDGETCODE"
Defining the type of expenditure (e.g. "ACTUAL", "BUDGET")
"LOCATION"
The school code used by the system (e.g. "UNIC1")
"YEARPERIOD" The monthly period in the accounting year in the format "2017/18.05", where "2017/18" equals the school financial year (1st September - 31st August) and ".05" equals the period (e.g. ".05" = January)
"LocationTitle" The name of the school as used by the system (e.g. "Unicorn School")

The nominal code mappings we currently use are as follows:

Assembly Measure Nominal Code(s) Used
High Needs Income High Needs income is calculated by summing any row of data with a "nominal code" of 1035 or 1085
Pupil Premium Income Pupil Premium income is calculated by summing any row of data with a "nominal code" of 1050
All Education Staff Spend Education Staff expenditure is calculated by combining the total " Teaching Spend" and "Educational Support Staff Spend"
Teacher Spend Teacher spend is calculated by summing all rows with the following nominal codes: 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2100, 2105, 2110, 2600, 2605, 2610, 2615
Education Support Staff Spend Education support spend is calculated by summing all rows with the following nominal codes: 2650, 2655, 2660, 2665, 2720, 2725, 2730, 2735, 2400, 2405, 2410, 2200, 2205, 2210, 2215, 2250, 2255, 2260, 2265, 2280, 2285, 2290, 2295, 2500, 2505, 2510, 2515

In order to set up this dashboard, we may require additional files from you codifying the school / location codes you use and any nominal code mappings that deviate from this list.
